In Book 1 of the Kroepesch 416 Progressive Daily Studies for the Clarinet, exercise #86 has double plus signs (++) written over the first note of the second measure (D6), and alongside the p dynamic marking under the first note of the 3rd measure (D4).
I have the Carl Fischer edition.
If you know what these symbols mean, please tell me.
Thanks.

I suspect it is an engraver's temporary markup, intended to be removed upon proofing. A similar engraver's markup can be seen in G. Leblanc's "Sixteen Phrasing Studies--Bonard" page 5, the F in the circle.
Perhaps we are seeing the work of apprecentice engravers, with the marks being notations put in by the masters to point out certain things. The F in the circle is pretty easy to figure out-- position is wrong -- belongs on the third beat. Perhaps the ++ refer to the slur mark originally being too close, or not close enough.

thanks
Don't know how I missed the previous discussion. It must have happened just as I started working on Kroepsch 1.
Anyhow, i tried playing the ++ as a mordant; and its cool.
