 New Clarinet by Mitchell Lurie

A friend, John Butler, gave me a heads up from NAPBIRT news that a new clarinet will be debuted at ClarinetFest called TYRO endorsed by Mitchell Lurie. This as well as other introductions made in China may be the beginning of quality instruments coming our way with "Made in China" stamped on them.

Thanks for the news, Dr. Omar!

In another news flash, Steinway/Conn/Selmer/UMI/Leblanc/Buffet/Yamaha is coming out with a disposable clarinet made of compressed newspaper, to be called the "PYRO", made not in China, but in Chicago.

just kidding

Dave...since newspaper is made of wood fibres, plastic and black ink it probably would make an excellent and cheaper filler than grenadilla dust...so you may have something there. Regarding China I often recall when all the cheap toys came from Japan.

TKS, Omar, interesting, partic. to US makers of "inexpensive" student cls., I'm sure. I was unable to read more than the opening sentences to the specs. and story statements. Didn't Vito or Bundy make a .577" bore student model? What might we conclude re: this one ? Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Tie Bai is a well-known Chinese clarinetist today (Tie Bai has performed at ClarinetFests and other venues); Zeng Ming-Liao I'm not familiar with. The chances of two professional Chinese clarinetists finding a good factory to produce clarinets are infinitely better than someone not familiar with China snd not speaking 'putonghua' (Mandarin).

The new Pyro is NOT made in Chicago.
It is a joint venture by Grucci and Zambelli internationale Fireworks makers.

The item has already been banned on the west coast owing to the risk of scrub fires.

Another entry is the Gahnja, from Jamaica, mon. =====~~
Guess what byproduct is used?

So if the principal clarinetist for some symphony acquired both new clarinets, it would be technically possible to play a Mozart concerto using a lit Pyro Bb to ignite a Gahnja A and thus introduce the public to the first clarinet played by inhaling?

Perhaps if we made clarinets out of quality newspapers we would be guaranteed a good read(sic)!

After dumping tons of crap on the American soil Chinese came up with a good one. Who needs another STUDENT clarinet? Students deserve an affordable PROFESSIONAL clarinet especially if it comes from China don't you think?

I tried to find out the material this jewel is made from but couldn't. I guess the material is irrelevant anyway, so who cares!
