 really convenient reed cases
Author: robin

I am looking for details of a company which makes reed cases which I have seen some players use but seem to be all too elusive to me! They are thin - open like a book - hold about 10 reeds, and the reed sits between a sheet of glass and a sheet of velvet. I'm really sick of all the other types and those little crappy Vandoren reed cases are sooo frustrating.

Hope someone can help this frustrated clari player!

I use a Selmer reed case that's similar to what you're looking for and is pretty inexpensive.

Here in France, you can buy the same thing marketed by Glotin. Decent reeds too.

You can get a woodwind and brasswind catalog and they have nice wooden reed cases. They're about $25-$60 for good ones. They are hinged on the side, and you can get plain wooden ones, or covered ones. I want to get one some day.

i checked teh IMS catalog and teh Selmer is 25.75 and holds 5 reeds and the wiseman holds five and sells for 28.00. They will have one with velvet and glass for 23.00 however they are not in stock yet.
Hope this helps
Bob

Hey, there's also those microscope slides that serve to hold reeds well. You can buy some along with a plastic case made to hold them and their "specimens", in this case your reeds. All you need to hold the reeds down are some rubber bands and ur all set. Just in case your thinking of something that may potentially hold more for a bit less than the 20+ range of the reed cases.

I use a Winter reed case, which isn't exactly what you're describing, but it's nice regardless. It holds ten reeds on a double-sided plastic/fiberglass thing with a velvet liner on the inside of the case, with some form of mock leather on the outside. IIRC, it was $45 out of Woodwind & Brasswind.

My personal favorites are the fake-alligator finish "reed wallets" which hold 8 reeds on a subdivided plastic plate with elastic bands. I hadn't seen them advertised for quite a while until just recently -- they're in the latest Muncy Winds catalog (item #296CBK for clarinet) --- and they're cheap, $14 for the clarinet size. I've had mine for at least ten years and they haven't fallen apart yet, nor do they seem to contribute to reed warpage, as far as I can tell.

Harrison makes the wood reed case you are refering to. I don't have their address but they are the people who also make the Harrison ligature.
