I own a ACL 670 Amati german system clarinet. I would like input on this instrument if you own one. I purchased the instrument out of curosity having began on a very old H.N. White albert system clarinet many years ago. Of course, I changed over to the boehm system after a couple of years discovering the major differences in the key work and fingering system. If you play a german system clarinet, I would appreciate hearing from you.

I played Oehler system clarinets for 10 years. My caveat is that I have not played on one in the last 3 years, but I should remember fingering questions, just let me know.

I too play (occasionally) my Amati "Oehler system" horn. Some differences in "back pressure", a little big different feel in the transition between registers, and (of course) some significant fingering differences.

I've also played "Albert" horns (started on the "Albert" system on an old Buffet bass clarinet with two register keys, in fact), which are another branch of the "German" side of the clarinet equation. All three have advantages and disadvantages.

Hmmm.........

Must be a difference in the quality of the horns. Mine were Wurlitzer 100cs which had the most consistant sound and resistance from the very bottom of the horn all the way to the uppermost altissimo of any horn I've ever played before or since. The pitch was also astoundingly even. The only issue for me was that the smaller mouthpiece and correspondingly tighter tolerance for the reed/mouthpiece combo made for a greater struggle to find and maintain reeds. The end result in the volume is also an issue since the acoustics of the design lend itself to a slightly less powerful sound.
