I found out this week that the Indiana WInd Symphony, with whom I play, will be premiering a piece of music on our May 19, 2007 concert. The conductor told us that there are great solos for timpani and contrabass clarinet in it. I haven't heard the piece or seen the part, so I don't know what I'm in for yet, but I'm somewhat excited about it. I've asked him to send me a copy of the part as soon as he has it so I can begin practicing well ahead of time.
It's probably not often that an amateur, who will only have been playing an instrument for less than a year and a half, gets a big solo in the premiere of a composition. (Well, I've been playing bass clarinet for much longer.) Wish me luck. I'll keep you updated.

Lobo, Congratulations!
The Indiana Wind Symphony-- any connection the University or with WoodWindiana publications? (Excellent line of clarinet works.)
Keep us posted what the work is, and how it goes, okay? (I never knew until about a year ago that the lowest notes on the contra are lower than the tuba.)
