 An Interesting OLD Selmer. Help!
Author: Don Berger

Its an H Selmer ?A? Paris, ser.# 3871 with ?Eagle Wing? logo and large H interposed on S. Its not quite playable as of now, soon tho, NO cracks !!!. In a ramshackled double case, has only ! 4 ! barrels, 3 like the above logo, one no "eagle" and has small HS. Barrels are ?graduated? from 58 to 66 mm, havent checked bores as yet. Was "inherited" from rite cheer in NE Okla by our History Museum, who have entrusted it to my pro bono recovery/investigation !! All comments , info, advice etc will be received with appreciation. Many TKS, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

P S - Its a 17/6, wood in V G condition !, U J bores 14.75 to .80 mm, slightly "egged"?, cyl [of course]. Its 19 1/2 " long [ UJ and LJ mated up], and about 1 1/2 - 2 " longer than the Bundy I'm also working on, so I presume its in the key of A. Since I'm selling my Kohlert A, I may have to steal this "new" one, just kidding, folks. Much fun on a Sun PM, got a concert [patriotic] in a couple hrs. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I had to dig up this thread [GBK/MC] , but wanted to add that this Golden Oldie is just that. Now very playable, dates back into 1929 [about the time I first made acquaintance with clarinets, saxes in 1935] . Its an A cl definitely, nicely in tune [440?] with the ! shortest !, 57 mm, barrel, when played versus a modern Bundy Bb AND FM Radio classical orchestras , surprised me ! Its obviously has had little lifetime playing, had "sticky" keywork, and loose corks, has taken quite a bit of TLC, would like to own it ! Its much the same as the old Buffets my closest cl friend here in "River City" OK plays well, gave him my BVL orch cl seat years ago !! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
