Hi, Laurie -
I 64, a returnee to the horn (Albert system types) after a long time away from it.
I occassionally take classes at a local community college in things that interest me so you might classify me as a 'student'.
You can meet all kinds of people here, from pros to beginners. It's a board for anyone who's interested.

Hello,
I'm a student in high school. I'm just about to finish my third year. I also play the piano. I'm trying to get started on alto sax so that I can play more on a jazz group.

I'm a sophomore in high school. I play Bb soprano, flute, tenor and soprano saxes, and I'm looking at picking up oboe. Anyways, I've played for 5 years, and want to major in music in college at Indiana University. *Crosses Fingers*

I turn 52 later this month. When I stop considering myself a student (of everything), it would probably be a good idea to bury me (or cremate me, or at least put me in a Glad bag and send me to the dump) before somebody reports the stench to the Health Dept. ;-)

Retired EE, 72 years young. Play lead alto and clarinet in a 17-piece Big Swing Band and lead clarinet in a Super 20 piece Town Band. Love all music except Rock and other associated types of ear piercing so called music (only area of music on which I've every disagreed with Dee).
Only advice I would ever give to you young students is: Don't ever give up on your music. No matter what profession you pursue, keep up with your music. Keep playing even if only sporadically throughout your life. Over the years, it will give you tremendous self-satisfaction.

I'm a freshman (almost sophomore) in college and a music education/math major with hopes of being a middle school band director. I play all flavors of clarinets from Bb to Bb contrabass regularly, plus I've started bassoon lessons.
It's great that so many people are returning to the wonderful world of clarinet-playing! I know at church and in communtiy band, several people have dusted off the horns that sat in their closest for years and practice more than I do!

Well, I'm 33 and am taking pre-law courses in college. I'm also a stay at home mom and I think the biggest thing I'm trying to learn is why 2 year olds AND 12 year olds constantly whine! I was a music major in school a long time ago, but dropped out to have my son (the 12 year old) and am now trying to finish college, raise my kids, keep my husband happy and learn the clarinet all over again!

Dave Lee,
Well, I was outrageously generalizing, and I have to say I never saw you making a spelling mistake. (IOh, yes, I',m from England too, and I can spell funny when needs be). I did spot one or two bloopers creeping in from the groves of academe here -- like dissonant notes in pleasant music.

Ha! You Brittons are so lucky to come from a land where the people have such an uncanny knack for the English language. In Texas they're almost forcing us to learn Spanish and we haven't even mastered English yet.

Willie, HA HA HA! I'm proud to be English. We don't have to learn another language, but I'm learning 2 others anyway. (Damn!)
