I am curious who here has borrowed scores from the ICA. I'm thinking about borrowing some scores myself and was wondering how hard the process of getting the scores were. I looked on the ICA borrowing site and read all the rules and procedures, but I was wondering how it was in actual life. Was it beneficial to borrow from them? I think this is a pretty cool thing that the University of Maryland and the ICA have available.

I have borrowed a variety of pieces from ICA, and it's a real treasure of a resource. Look over the listings carefully though as some pieces may only be a score, without parts. Also, when I last ordered there wasn't a way to know if pieces I wanted were currently out on loan. That being said, it's very special to have a resource like this, to look over pieces, many of which may be out of print, or unpublished.

I have borrowed scores from them on several occasions and it's always been an easy process. It's a fabulous resource!

I've borrowed music from ICA. Very easy and rewarding process. Just be sure that your ICA membership is up-to-date.

It says we're supposed to have a membership card? I have an email that confirmed my membership but I never got an official card.

I use the mailing 'label' that comes with "The Clarinet" magazine. Haven't gotten a membership card in years.
More generally: a fabulous resource.

How bizarre, I have just sent a request to the ICA to borrow some material for the first time and was going to post something similar to this.
I'll be interested to see if the process works as well for those of us overseas. It seems to be very well organised and the instructions were very clear indeed.
I sent a copy of the page I'd been e-mailed/seen on screen when I first took out my ICA membership (which I joined purely to use this resource) so I hope that'll be acceptable.

Hi,
I am just finishing up a graduate assistantship at Special Collections in Performing Arts at the University of Maryland, where the 7,000+ clarinet scores are housed. It was definitely a great resource to have, especially as I was completing a master of music degree in clarinet there. The process is fairly easy. Just make sure to provide proof of membership. A photocopy of your number and expiration date which comes with the magazine is acceptable. An email from the ICA executive office stating your member number and expiration is also acceptable. Just writing the number and expiration on a piece of paper is not acceptable. If you cannot find your member number, just follow the link in Brad Behn's post above.
Also, I advise you to provide a lot of alternate score requests, since some may be checked out. You have up to two months to borrow them. I urge you to please, please return things on time so that others may use this fantastic collection. We have a number of scores that have never been returned to us. The borrowers have moved or are deceased, or they are just delinquent.
