I have an Evette Paris, France, made by Buffet Crampon. The serial number is D14937. I haven't played it in awhile and would like to start up again. It needs new pads and corks and what-not, and I'm wondering if it would be worth getting fixed up. What info is there on the D model? I can't seem to find any. Thanks so much!

I have one of those (different model letter, K) its a few decades old, but i have found it worth it to keep it fixed up, it was good enough to get surprised compliments from a pro, (they thought i switched clarinets, i caught them trying to read the "brand" on the bell,ha), and an experienced repair guy, it might be classed as an intermediate? mine has silver plate keys, not that the silver has any bearing on how i play it but it does help with the decision about whether to repair it or not,. the rates they charge here for fixing it up are always reasonable and they do it promptly as well, so that helps. no question it beats the plastic school one i had for years(which wasn't so bad itself for a school instrument, better than some of the ones i've been seeing lately).

With a K-prefix to the serial number, I suspect you are talking about an "Evette & Schaeffer" model which is a higher-end instrument (predecessor to the current Buffet E13) than the "Evette."

The "Evette" model was a good (IMHO) student model, predecessor to the current Buffet E11. (If it says "Master Model" on it, it was predecessor to the E12.) If it has no structural defects (cracks, chipped tenons, broken keys) and is generally in pretty good shape except for needing a cleaning, polishing and new pads, I think it probably is worth getting fixed up (at least up to a couple of hundred dollars). I think the Buffet serial number search function is still not operating but, if my memory serves, the D-series Evettes started around 1960. That would likely put your instrument in the 1960's - generally a good decade for Buffets. The cost of the repairs may be more than you could sell the instrument for (at least on eBay) but would likely give good "value in use" and the repairs would likely be considerably less than the cost of a comparable new clarinet.

well , it says nothing about schaeffer on the logo, just evette sponsored by buffet, but there always seems to be some confusion about these clarinets anyways...?i've tried tracing the serial number but still am not sure about it...
