I found most hand faced clarinet mouthpieces
were designed for use with v12 #3.5 reed, (e.g. Hawkins,Smith)
the tip opening is too close for use with thinner
reed, does any one know good mouthpiece maker
make mouthpiece suitable for V12 #3 reed?

I don't know if it was intended that way, but I use a V12 #3 with my Clark Fobes mouthpiece. I expect that others might use a harder reed.

I play on a really old B45 by vandoren, I think it is a misfit because it is alot more open than any other B45's I have ever played on , but nine the less it plays great. What you need to do is go to a music store and ask them for a mouthpeice that is open and has a long face on it. The more closed or short tabled a mouthpeice is the harder reed, the more open and longer, the softer, just go try it out.

As far as hand made mouthpieces go-- I have found that it vairies from mouthpiece to mouthpiece as to what size reed you need to use..
My teacher (Julie DeRoche) plays on a Hawkins mouthpiece and uses a size 4 V-12 reed.. but Larry Combs plays the exact same setup and uses a 3 1/2 ...
Personally, I play on a Hawkins mouthpiece with a 3 1/2
V-12 reed, but I would try a lot of different combinations until you find one that works...
