Author: Joey  Date:   2000-05-15 23:39 To elaborate on Willie's post, since I too am from TX... Ok, in TMEA, in order to make state, you have to go through a slew of auditions. First, there's district, where basically your compete for chairs with people from schools that your football team usually plays during the year (the games that count anyway). Second, there is Region, where schools in a larger area compete for chairs. By the way, in Region, there is a cut that separates students into two bands (Honors and Symphonic) and they perform a concert for the Region directors, parents etc. Third, there is Area auditions. In TX, there are 7 Areas where 9 clarinetists are chosen in each area. Then, those 63 advance to state, where after auditions, students are placed into performance groups. The first four (if they choose) are placed in the Symphony Orchestra (the top group), the next four are placed in the Philharmonic Orchestra (2nd top group), then the remaining positions in the Symphonic and Concert Bands are handed out according to chair results. I was 7th in the Concert Band this year, and even though I thought I did bad, I still managed to get a duet with the 1st chair in our band There you go, a basic run down of what we do to make it to state.
