 Legere German Reeds
Author: Roger Aldridge

I'm curious if anyone on the Forum is using Legere German cut reeds. I've heard that Legere makes a German cut; however, none of the shops that I normally use to get Legere reeds have the German reeds. Thus, I haven't had an oppurtunity to try them.

I have several questions:

How would you compare them to VD Black Master (or would they be closer to White Master)?

Where can I order them?

How similar or dissimilar is the German cut to the Legere Quebec...other than perhaps the length of the reed?

Thanks, Roger

Roger,

What strength would you anticipate needing? I have a #3 German cut that Guy gave me to try out. I haven't even opened it yet.

Hi Merlin!

I use a #3 Quebec on my RM28. Do you have any idea how a #3 German compares with a #3 Quebec?

Roger

No idea! LOL

I was actually talking to the production manager at Legere yesterday - I should have asked him at the time. He's a friend, so I'll try and find out.

Merlin,

We're in luck! I received this message just now from Guy Legere:

Roger

The German cut reeds are fashioned after the Vandoren White Master. There is no resemblance to the Quebec cut. The German cut reed is narrow (12.2mm) with a shorter vamp.

Thanks

For a period of time I used VD Black Master reeds on a RM15 and had very good results. Being a curious type, I tried some White Master reeds and it was immediately apparent that the reed's profile was completely wrong for my set up. Given that experience I'll set aside my curiousity about the Legere German reed and stick with Quebec as it feels like a perfect match for me.

Thanks for your reply!

Roger
