 more jazz low clarinet recordings

Readers looking for examples of low clarinets in jazz will enjoy three Clare Fischer albums which found their way to me. The first is entitled Blues Trilogy, and uses a clarinet choir of 2 soprano, 2 bass and an Eb contra, in addition to flute and alto flute. It seems to be out of print but available from online vendors of used CDs. I was sent the album by my brother, who engineered it in 1982 and recently became aware of my interest in this stuff.

The others are On A Turqoise Cloud (2002) and A Family Affair (2006), which feature similar choirs, with the occasional addition of items like mellophone bugle and contrabass bugle. I think very highly of all this material, which comprises an impressive body of composition as well as some marvelous treatments of standards from the jazz repertoire.

Fischer is well known as a pianist and keyboard player, but I was surprised and delighted to read how he favors the clarinet choir as a complement to the composer's tool chest.

There is lots about this at: www.clarefischer.com

enjoy
