Ok, Here are my options and I need some help (again; you guys are wonderful!) I have in my sights the option of 4 different clarinets. I haven't played in 9 years, if that makes any difference.
Buffet R13, used $870 (in prime condition)
Buffet E11, new $1320
Normandy 4, new $ 1200
Selmer Signet 100, used $600 (in prime condition)
I know the R13 is a professional level clarinet, but how do the others compare to each other? Should I start out again after all these years with a professional clarinet? I just want to play for enjoyment and maybe for church every now and then, not in an orchestra or professionally.

I don't know about the others, but I really like my R-13. I've heard the Normandy is pretty good. Hmm... Go for the R-13!!

There is no contest. Take the R-13. On a scale of one to ten the R-13 is a ten, the E11 is a five and the other two are four or less. Grab that R-13 before someone else does!!!!!!

I would go for the R13 plus a good mouthpiece and ligature. But I'd have a technician check it out first.

do you have the oportunity to try them out? if so, would try them first.... if you can try them side by side, I think I would do that ..... good luck....

godo used r13 go for about $1200 on ebay. If you can get if for less then $900 plus a good m/p you are dollars and horn ahead. i believe that the most horn you can get for the dollar the better. i just sold a good e11 for $300.

Further my previous message ... or if not a technician, pay or persuade an experienced clarinettist to go with you if you decide to purchase the R-13. (if you are not an experienced player). If the instrument is in prime condition, the R13 is far superior to the other instruments you mention, and I'm sure you will have no regrets about buying it.

Go for the Pro model...It's highly respected, and even though I'm not the biggest fan of Buffet's...granted that it's in prime condition, you'll get the biggest bang for your buck.

I vote for the R-13 too! I just bought a new one and boy, does it sound sweet!!!! That price sounds good too. Make sure you play-test whatever you get and enjoy your purchase!
