 Summer Teacher

I'm a junior clarinet performance major in college who is looking for a summer teacher. Does anyone know of a clarinetist in the Richmond, va or northern va area that gives lessons? Thanks!

If you are a performance major, I take it that you take lessons at the college or university you were attending. Did your teacher recommend someone whose teaching parallels theirs or who has a good reputation among other students and colleagues (or would be willing to recommend)???
I would also maybe try to contact local professionals (I know their are several symphony orchestras in your area). Ask around. Find out where other clarinet students from your university are going/taking from.

Best of Luck!!!
Clayton

I think you are in great luck. I think either Chuck West at Virginia Commonwealth University or David Niethamer, listed at the University of Richmond and an occasional contributor to this board would be outstanding.

Best regards,

Here's another endorsement for Chuck West. Great Teacher.

If you're going to go as far as the DC area, try to set something up with Loren Kitt of the Nat'l Symph Orch. He professes at Maryland U, but maybe he lives in DC?

You could also check out the Richmond Symphony- I know both Ralph Skiano and Jared Davis are great players and also teach privately.

Loren Kitt actually resides in Maine, but must keep a place around College Park, MD too, since he comes down for the NSO and to teach at U of Maryland. He's a very fine teacher. Just ask him a lot of questions...he knows a lot. I don't know anyone down in Virginia.
