trill from high G to A
Author: Ebclarinet1

Am doing a piece with a symphonic band that requires a trill from high G to A on the Eb clarinet. Although I can get both the high G and A to play clearly and in tune as separate notes, I can't find a way to trill that is either pretty or in tune (the piccolos have the same trill so this exacerbates the problem!).

Anyway, I'm open for any suggestions!

Here are 2 possibilities (there are others)

Play the G6 as: TR oxx/xxx F/C
Trill to A6 by fingering: TR oxx/ooo F/C

Play the G6 as: TR ooo/xxo
Trill to A6 by fingering: (no thumb or register key) ooo/xxo

Another one: TR oxx/xxo Eb and trill with the two right hand fingers.

This works on the Bb clarinet, and should work on the Eb.

It's idiotic for a composer to write that trill for Eb clarinet. If you can't get it in tune with the piccolos, just mime playing it.

Thanks for the suggestions! I agree that it is a ridiculous thing to do, especially in unison with the piccolos playing a high Bb to C trill.

As you know just playing an A6 on Eefer is an accomplidshment but trilling from high G to A is a little absurd. I've thought of just taking it down an octave for that note but wil give your suggestions a try. In terms of int0omnation the more standard fingerings sounded better but it was a very awkward trill at best.
