I'm new to this forum, but I love it already.
So I was thinking about going to the Idyllwild summer program for clarinet. Does anyone know if its too late to sign up? It seems like it would be really fun and great experience, from what i read. But I might get jaw surgery next year, and that would completely change my embouchure (Im going to be a senior in high school next year) and I have no clue how this will affect my playing (If I can even play). I don't even know if I'm going to stick with clarinet in college. Do you think going to Idyllwild is worth it? It's not that cheap either...

It is too late to sign up I'm pretty sure.
Anyway, I've heard a rumour that Gilad wasn't teaching there (Yehuda Gilad that is) this summer. If he is, rush and call the office- drive yourself to the office to beg in person, or something! He's just where it's at as far as teaching in the US is concerned these days. If I had the money before college for a summer program I'd like to study with him! I'd love to go to USC for grad school- or anywhere else he is teaching then.

I went to Idyllwild back in 2003. It's a FANTASTIC program, I was lucky to win principal of the festival orchestra and work with yahuda right after graduating high school but I don't think that had happened before or since.. Usually the people that play in the orchestra and work with Yahuda are grad students and some of the higher ranking chairs in the wind ensemble.
I'm not going to lie, I loved Idyllwild. I have some amazing memories from being there that I will never forget.

Do you mean you attended USC and studied with him after high school, or have just studied with him?

It is too late to sign up for the festival wind ensemble. I missed the deadline also. I have heard great things about the camp. The other clarinetist that teaches there is Amanda Walker, the professor of clarinet at UC Irvine, and she recommended that I checked it out. There's always next year.

Is it worth it? Of course it is! I received a scholarship and attened Idyllwild after my sophomore year of High School. Back in the dark ages for some of you -- 1960!! It was one of the memories that will always be with me.
Go for those music experiences!
