I have recently received a Penzel Mueller Brilliante Clarinet
Author: Jerseyjoe

I know nothing about clarinets. Is it a good model? Good Clarinet? Anything that you could tell me about them would be greatly appreciated. It is not in the greatest of shape but it's not in terrible shape either. Any info on this would be great. All I can tell you is that it says Penzel Mueller Brilliante Model LI NY also on the bell it says Carl Fischer New York. It also has a serial? # of M5986-B if that helps. Thank you all in advance. Either e-mail me at josephleming@hotmail.com or this link. Sorry new to this board.

Use the 'Search' link above. There are hundreds of postings about the Penzel-Mueller company.

Hi JerseyJoe, Welcome - Mark is right, we have discussed P-M's frequently. From about 1900 to the 1940-50's they made many, possibly the best, US made cls along with Bettoney, Pedler, Pruefer, competing well with the French imports of that time period. I still have my first good cl, a PM Full Boehm 20 keys/ 7 rings [about 1925?], and it is still playable. A good friend prizes his Artist model, 17/6, now competing for his favor with a VG Selmer 10G and a special Leblanc. They used many good-sounding model names. Yours, with competent repair/restoration, should be a good player. Being prob. about 50 years old, not as good perhaps as the best now available, but "suitable" for community band use etc. Have fun, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I once had a bass clarinet branded Penzel-Mueller Brillante. It turned out to be a Noblet. I didn't like it, but that proves little as P-M didn't make it.
