Hi,
DOes any one know who makes the E series buffets? I know its not buffet. They are made in germany (at least most of them). THe keys, body, case and apperancer are similar to the keilwerths. They are good horns but I want to know who makes them because I want to know what the pro model of these horns are.

I would guess hat whoever makes them must follow manufacturing guidelines and specifications set by Buffet accousticians. Therefore, I consider the pro-lines of these instruments to be the Buffets--R-13s, Greenlines, Pretiges, and Internationals, etc.

I believe I am right in saying that the keywork for both professional and student-quality Buffet-Crampons is produced at their factory in Mantes, France. The professional instruments are entirely made, assembled and tested at Mantes, as well as some wooden-bodied student instruments. Last I heard, the plastic-bodied instruments were all assembled in Germany.

I'm sorry! What was that? I own a Buffet E-11 B-flat clarinet and it's wooden, not plastic. Was Beejay suggesting that all E-11's are plastic, or that they are made in Mantes, not Germany? I THINK it's the latter. I've always thought that E-11s were made somewhere in France, I don't know about the others though.

The E-11 is wood. Isn't the equivalent plastic model the B-11? I think you are right in saying that the wooden models are mostly made in France (the professional instruments certainly are) but if you want to know with precision, I could easily find out.

I play an E series, and it was made in Germany. It is wooden, not plastic. When I purchased my clarinet, I was told that it was made at a Buffet factory in Germany, because it was cheaper to make it there. I was also told that that is why the keys are silver, because Germany has strict regulations regarding using nickel. I took all this to mean that it is a Buffet instrument, simply not made at the french factory.
