Anyone have any sound files of side by side comparisons of different clarinets?

Why do you want sound files of different clarinets. A clarinet is only as good as its player, and no two clarinets play or sound the same. So thusly, it stands to reason that one can achieve relatively the same sound on either a Buffet RC Prestige or a plastic Bundy/Vito/Artley clarinet. It all depends on the skill and knowledge of the player. A $3500 clarinet won't make a beginner sound like Larry Combs. I'm sure my clarinets (ranging from a P.O.S. Olds clarinet to a LeBlanc Opus and a 1957 Buffet R-13) would sound the same if played by Ricardo Morales or Julie DeRoche. So sound files comparing the different instruments would be irrelevant to you. If you are interested in purchasing a clarinet, you should arrange to visit a large store and try several for yourself. Its all in what works best for you. I hope I made sense (I am known to ramble incoherently)!!! Best of Luck!!!

Yes, Clayton, that's true. But I think what they were going after is a difference in sound of two instruments played by the same person. Provided they are reasonably competent (and the recordings are reasonably good), that would still afford an opportunity for someone to make some subjective judgements.
Sometimes things thrown out as part of the general conversation are allowed to be whimsical. I'm under the impression that this is a place designed for the free exchange of ideas. Back when I worked in the corporate world, and I got people together to brainstorm about something, I wanted to hear every idea, from the ridiculous to the brilliant.
Sometimes they ended up being the same thing.

While the basic sound of an instrument is important, I have come to think that eveness of response, intonation, flexibility of intonation, resistence (or lack thereof) is even more important. What good is sounding good if you can't play the instrument easily?
