Since I know how much we love our instruments, and love to hear the joyous news of the adoption of another into our loving musical families (insert cheesy grin here), I thought I'd share my newest child with my BB brethren...

I just got a rosewood LeBlanc Opus (one of the few they made before they re-branded them the Symphonie VII) from That Site for...are you all ready for this...$800. Could you just DIE? It plays wonderfully, and will play even more wonderfully after I get it to my tech in Midtown...

Yay!!! O Happy Day!

thanks for letting me share :-)

(Oh, and there's a pic!)

Seems like everyone finds the killer deals except for me. I only get the good ones (can't complain about that though . . . )

Thanks, guys! :-) I can*not* stop looking at it long enough to actually play it! *grin*

I think my GAS has just become acute.

Congratulations. I owned a Symphonie VII for a few months. It was absolutely beautiful to look at, but had a very bright tone. You did get a good deal because I paid $3,795.00 for mine from a discount supplier.

You lucky _____! $800 is practically GIVING it away!

I've just finished overhauling an older Leblanc Opus (and I'm just about to annoy the neighbours in a mo when I try it out), but I've never managed to try out their rosewood clarinets to see how they compare.

Earlier on today with the Navy band I played a blackwood Howarth S5 oboe - it's nowhere near as good as my kingwood one, nice though it is - so I'll stick to what I like. I've never even tried the cocobolo Howarth clarinets either, though I did see a pair ll boxed up but I didn't have my mouthpiece at the time - but their blackwood S2 and S3 calrinets are nice as far as small bore clarinets go.

[ Chris P. is an employee of Howarth's and did not disclose such until much later. My apologies for missing this and letting Chris P. misuse this BBoard - Mark Charette/GBK ]

Congrats! Just remember to keep it well hydrated to keep the humidity balanced! Yay!

Yes, you might do a search for rosewood clarinets here on the bboard because I know we've discussed the differences many, many times. I found my rosewood clarinets dried out more rapidly than the grenadilla models.

Tears here, you clever dog.

A glimmer of light,

At least the keys are not (yet?) gold plated.

S/he's beautiful.

Congratulations and my great envy echoing others..
Never seen rosewood clarinet in real life. May you enjoy every moment of your playing it.
(insert sigh of envy again.)

Dude, that is awesome! Gotta love the Leblancs. Now, if you can just nail the same kind of deal on a matching "A" . . . .

How is the key plating condition? It looked rather worn in the advert...

The plating is totally fine, the silver is just very tarnished. His photographs are not the best...everything is much darker than it appears, and he uses some odd lighting. It's in obviously used, but fine condition overall...just needs a repad, polish, and a good oiling.

It'd be worthwhile doing all the smaller pads in cork and the four larger pads in leather, then it will hardly need any serious work for a long time to come.

And better still, it't got plastic tonehole bushes so it's the perfect candidate for cork padding - you'll get the perfect seal with both of these factors.

Yeah, I'm still jealous.

Hi Josh,

The Rosewood is a beauty!
That's quite a coup for you.

What kind of clarinet do you use on your
regular gigs?

Good luck to you DressedToKill....

Thanks!! :-) We're still bonding...

My primary Bb (I say "primary" because I have a SERIOUS and long-standing case of GAS) is also a LeBlanc Opus, but I also have a soft spot for my LeBlanc Infinite. My primary A is a Patricola.

I'm so jealous! My plastic Roxie is well overdue for retirement. Rosewood? I've never heard of using that before. How does that differ from the normal African black stuff?

Fabulous! We all have that moment when we get *the* clarinet. Mine (of many others) is a 1967 Buffet, reconditioned by master craftsman Vytas Krass. That's my baby!

Bill.
