 Free Scores

I found a free site with lots of public domain clarinet (and other) music.

http://www.free-scores.com/free-sheet-music.php?CATEGORIE=100

They're zipped PDF files, so you'll need an Unzip program and Acrobat Reader (both free).

The parts are in score form, so to perform them, you'll need to cut up the pages and paste the lines into separate parts. Can anyone suggest a free or low-cost program to do this on the computer? Would it be easier to convert the PDFs into HTMLs first?

Hi Ken,

Many thanks for this link. One approach to extracting parts that I've experimented with a little and had mixed success with involves converting the pdf files to tiff files using Software995's Omniformat, then importing the tiff file into Finale PrintMusic using the SmartScore Lite option. The converted pdf's are equivalent to high-quality scans and the error rate when imported into Printmusic is usually low. I have to use Microsoft Paint to convert the tiffs from color to black-and-white before importing them but, once in PrintMusic, it's a fairly easy task to create the clarinet parts. An advantage is that I also wind up with a computer accompaniment. I've only tried this approach a few times. I haven't been able to make it work very well for orchestra scores that vary the number of systems from page to page. It does seem to work pretty well with a piano scores.

Best regards,
jnk

I've tried to use Finale's scanning option to avoid my (error-ridden) manual transcription of printed music. For me, my scanner, ... it doesn't work very well, and takes a whole lot of editing work to clean up.

This is NOT Finale PrintMusic, but their music writing tool.

Ken Photoscore Pro will convert PDF into Sibelius files with a high degree of accuracy.....It uses a programme called Ghostscript.....has worked well for me in the past

Many thanks for the link to this great site. Thanks to this I've finally come across some music by Crusell, one of my favourite clarinet composers. I asked my teacher recently about trying to play some of his music, but she said it tends to be very hard to find and also very expensive.....and this is free! Wow?

Crusell's music is avalible all over the web, and I really love his pieces as they are really well constructed and instumentated.
