I did a search and realise there has been a few discussions regarding B40's and B40 Lyres. No one actually has stated that they play on a B40 Lyre, only offered comments. Is anybody playing regularly on one, and how do you find it? I'm still adjusting to mine.

I have a B40 Lyre that I bought at Clarinetfest a few years ago.
After playing it a while, I went back to the 5RV (not the 5RV Lyre), which seems to work best for me.
The search for a better one never ends, it seems :-)

Is B40 is always same?
Vanden's reed tip shape changes.
I loved a B40 in 1976,2RV,and Vandren select.
Now, I cannot find this setting.

Aussie, I like the Vandoren Lyre as their second most open facing below the 5JB. It plays really freely with the Marca no. 2 reed. It must, therefore, have a "long" facing too. A soft reed for you? Ken

The B40 lyre played darker than my regular B40. Otherwise the resistance and feel was the same.

I have found every B40 Lyre I've played to be slightly more free blowing than the B40s. Today I tried some B40 Lyre 13's and bought one. It seems even more free blowing again and helps bring the pitch down really well.

It may be difficult to find B40 alternative manufacturers in U.S. since their designs are for thick reeds than B40 is for. On the other hand players of England seem to use more open face mouthpieces as shown in the Pillinger thread. Although this may be different from ordinary views, players in Germany or France use rather thin reeds and therefore more open face mouthpieces compared with American players.
If you contact Ed Pillinger personally, you may be able to acquire useful info since he seems to have a very wide range of designs as posted in the thread. (Since your teacher used to have worked in the London Symphony Orchestra,he might be familiar with him.)
BTW. Vandoren changed its reed tip shape and my guess is that they changed their mouthpiece tips to match their reeds. Although recently they have started to sell Rue 56 reeds based on their old design I suspect there may be a mismatch of reeds and mouthpieces.
