Please help me identify this clarinet

Hi,

I have a single-piece full-Boehm clarinet and don't know anything about
it. There is an inscription on the bell and body in a language I can't
read. A picture is here:

http://tinyurl.com/kbtdj

Any information would be most welcome! Who made it, approximate
vintage, approximate value, etc.

I'm asking because if I wanted it in playable condition, it would need
a full overhaul including new pads, corks, tenon ring adjustments, a
new post and spring for the low Eb key, and the small crack in the bell
pinned. Is this horn worth it?

Thanks in advance,

Stacy

I think you'll be paying a lot more for the overhaul and other work than the clarinet is worth, judging by the photo http://tinyurl.com/kbtdj it's an older Chinese made clarinet and they don't hold any market value even with all bells and whistles.

Japanese, made in Tokyo (that much I can read), probably for the Japanese Navy band looking at the fouled anchor and chrysanthemum design. The sharpness of the logo makes me think this is either barely used or newer than you think.

But value is most certainly problematical ...

Oh yeah - I see the first two characters (going from left to right) on the longer line of text says 'Japan', and I think there's a couple of Hiragana characters to the right.

So the quality of the keywork and general workmanship should be better than I first thought.

Can you post some more pictures?

The first row of characters are hard to read. The middle rows reads Japanese Wind Instrument Association (roughly), then Tokyo.

I think we have a winner! I'd say that it's worth restoring.
