I hope someone out there can help! My clarinet knowlege is minimal and I need some help in identifying the following instrument: It is a clarinet....but it is smaller than the clarinets i am accustomed to seeing. Soprano????? It is made of wood. rosewood? It has a wooden mouthpiece and wooden mouthpiece cover whcih look as though they were hand made...fine detail. The instrument has no markings except an E on each piece of the body and bell, not mouthpiece or cover. This looks to me to be an extremely fine instrumnet. Can anyone tell me about it? Thanks.

Probably an Eb (if you search the BBoard I think you'll find the approximate dimensions) - but with no maker's mark it'll be impossible to know any more.

Is the keywork the same [or similar] to other clarinets you have seen? Count the number of keys and the number of rings, it will help us to identify it. Look at it carefully under light to see if there are other markings. Don

Often the manufacturer's markings look very faint if all the color has worn out of them. Check with a strong magnifying glass in good light, all over the wood.
