Unusual markings on a Buffet Bb clarinet

I hope someone here might lend their expertise or at least a nudge in the right direction...
I am researching (or attempting to research) the origins of a clarinet that a friend of mine has obtained. Based on the serial number I believe that it is a Buffet Clarinet made in 1903. My trouble is this, it does not bear the Buffet brand mark on the bell, but instead a very simple diamond with the word "Corvette" in script in the center. I have spent hours trying to find anything of some help online and the local music shop is of no use when it pertains to older instruments. Being I know nothing about this, is there anything anybody could suggest???

Does it have the Buffet logo on the other sections? If so it probably just had the bell replaced.

In addition to the suggestion that the bell may have been replaced, many US musical instrument importers/retailers would engrave their company name on the bells of instruments (or replace bells) before selling them--often in large letters. This was kind of the advertising equivalent of the dealer's emblem that you'll see on the back of most cars on the highways today. Every musician who bought one of their horns was effectively an advertisement for that dealer.

I don't, offhand, know of a "Corvette" music retailer, but that may be one path to search.

Or perhaps, in its past, this was a very, very quick clarinet..........
