Hi! I am new here! I have played the saxophone for 37 (YIKES) years, and consider myself a serious/student/player/musician.
I do quite a bit of doubling on clarinet and flute, doing local theatre and musical productions. I have taken a total of ONE clarinet lesson in my life (that's one more lesson than I have taken on the flute!) I find myself befuddled by the clarinet, and sometimes have a self-defeating attitude about it. I feel like I'll never be as good a clarinetist as I am a saxophonist, because of my relatively late start on the clarinet (I was in my teens). I do practice clarinet every day!
I look forward to coming to this site and getting some help!
I am considering the purchase of an older buffet bass clarinet (It is the one woodwind instrument I have to borrow when I get called to gig). I should have some more info on the instrument later today. The seller is not really sure whether it's low e flat or c, whether it has one register key or two, and it needs a substantial amount of work.
If i provided a serial number range of this instrument, and perhaps a picture, could some of you buffet experts help me out on its approximate value, suitability for doubling, etc??
Thanks in advance,
Steve

More info: the bass clarinet i am looking at is 19xxx serial number, somewhere around 1950, i would guess. it is definitely a low e flat model.
The seller is looking for $900.00 for this instrument. it has no case, and needs a complete pad job.
The lower joint has been pinned and the tenos have been fitted with abs sleeves. The tone holes look good.
Is the price fair?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Steve
