Has anyone heard the LA Clarinet Choir?
Fourteen clarinets including some bass and I guess contrbass.
They have some audio samples on the net, they sounded pretty good to me.
They can be heard at:http://www.margaretthornhill.com/ClarinetChoir.htm
I've just resumed playing after a hiatus of some (50) years. I came upon them while surfing the net for clarinet info. There is some around. I've
subscribed to the Clarinet mag etc.
I remember having the first two issues. There has been big changes...improvment I think? I have been out of touch so long and I'm stunned by todays high performance standards. I'm not sure if Simeon Bellison could get by a modern
audition...but what do I know?!

Boy, that conversion of a string quartet to a clarinet choir for the Weber is strange!

I am one of the members of the newly formed Los Angeles Clarinet Choir. Several of us are on this board. We started playing together last summer after Margaret Thornhill advertised the start of a new group on the Klarinet list. We meet once a week in the Pasadena area. It is without doubt the most fun ensemble I have played with in a long time. We played our first concert in September. Some links from our December concert are up on Margaret's page above. (you can hear me play the Weber Rondo there).
We have quite a variety of clarinet types in there- Eb sopranino to Bb to alto to basset horn to contra alto and contra bass!
If you're in the southern California area, please check the site for details regarding our concerts in La Crescenta and South Pasadena on May 13th and 14th! We'll be performing an arrangement of the Peer Gynt Suite- think about "In the Hall of the Mountain King" with lots of bass clarinets. It's great.
Thanks, Clarinet Redux, for your kind comments and attention to our group!

As the resident contrabass clarinet player in the Los Angeles Clarinet Choir, I want to thank you for alerting folks to us and our music. Actually there are three of us who play contrabass and contra alto clarinets (the "pedal clarinet gang"). There are also seven of us who play bass clarinet and two who own and play basset horns...not all at the same time, however. Now if you have an Ab sopranino clarinet for sale, please let us know!
Because I only took a 31-year break from the clarinet, I stand in awe of your return to the instrument after a 50 year hiatus.
FYI, the next concert by the Los Angeles Clarinet Choir will be on Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the La Crescenta Presbyterian Church located at 2902 Montrose Avenue in La Crescenta, California.

I went to last December's concert, and quite liked it. I was especially impressed by the clarity and substance of the lower instruments in the ensemble (the ensemble I've played in usually had people who'd just started playing the lower horns).
From what a friend of mine says, the group does some great sight-reading as well.
Will definitely try to make one of the May concerts.
