Where to buy a Charles Bay ligature
Author: Stephane

Does anyone know of where to buy a Charles Bay ligature? I checked Woodwind and Brasswind and it is currently "on order."

Thanks,

Stephane

Thanks.

I had actually seen that site, but was dismayed to see they charge $10 more than wwbw. If anyone knows anywhere else to get the ligature, that would be helpful.

Thanks,

Stephane

Golly! I just sold one. Ligatures are so funny, aren't they? I mean, for me it's a fussier issue than mouthpieces, reeds, or clarinets. It's like a date. You know the first night out whether this is going to work or not. I got the Bay, took it out, put it on my mouthpiece, and .... hated it from the first moment. Perhaps a better analogy is to shoes, except that they can improve after an initial break-in phase. It's a quesion of tactile comfort and ease of use. Never - for me - was the ligature evaluated in terms of "tone" or clarity or whatever (although I believe fabric ligaures deaden your sound). I realize that for oithers, these are primary considerations. I never looked to a ligature for that. It's exclusively a question of functionality.

I have a Harrison gold-plated ligature, a Spriggs floating rail, an Optimum, blah-blah-blah. What I use is this totally cheap-looking, thin metal Vandoren that looks a bit like a Mitchell Lurie. It came with an old mouthpiece. I wonder if VanD still makes them?

It was love at first sight.

Bill.

When I don't have any, I sell them for $15 cheaper.

Stephane,

If you have trouble finding a Bay ligature I have several gold Bay Bb clarinet ligatures (standard inverted model) that I'm no longer using.

Roger,

I'm still looking, but that sounds like a possibility. If you want to send me an email with a price, that would be great.

Stephane
