Will it crack or will it not crack

I just finished my trial period with three clarinets, two Buffets R13, one of those two being the Greenline. The Greenline was just a bit better than the regular R13. With that and the documentation stating that cracking was a thing of the past - I went for the Greenline R13. What a nice horn! Funny thing is that the warranty states that all Greenline instruments have a warranty of 3 years against cracking. Both documentation are from Buffet -- which one is right? It makes no sense to me to have the marking docs state that cracking is a thing of the past, but the warranty saying that it may (by giving it only three years) - whats up?

"Marketing" and "Warranty" need not coincide, even if it would be really nice if they did. However it seems that if the wood-fibre and plastic resin composite of these Greenline clarinets were to show manufacturing related stress cracks, these cracks would show up very ,very early, as they tend to do in most of the composite materials that I have worked with over the years. I would expect that physical damage in normal use (wear and tear) would be more of a hazard. Congratulations on your new horn. Play it !!!!
Do you even have to go through the ominous "Break-in Procedure" of playing a little each day to slowly build up moisture as is needed with a solid wood instrument?

I agree with Todd H. I contacted Mr Kloc about the R-13 greenline for a research report. the greenline material does not crack like wood because of temperature and humidity changes. Thats a factory warenty for factory mistakes. They dont want to have to take responsibility for what happens to it durign its normal life. Its also a fairly recent material so there is no deffinit response to how it will be say 50 years from now. Its not like sears were they have many years experience with thier poduct. Not to say buffet isnt familiar with clarinets but the greenline material has to prove itself befor they will put such a risky warrenty.

Thanks guys for the response.

Next question - there was not a lot of info on how to take care of this. Does one need to oil this (it is 95% wood), or are all the wood grain coated with the epoxie so that it oil would not absorb anyway?

BTW Todd -- the little info there is does state to only play it for 30 a day for the first week. But this little booklet looked like a generic one they tossed into all cases.
