There is a 'new' Buffet clarinet model which is similar to some of the older models. It is called the Buffet Vintage R-13. I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but you will have to try clarinets until you find something you like.......
I would describe the Vintage R-13 as having a deep, dark, sweet sound and it feels more resistant than some of the new R-13's.
Good luck,

The sound varies with the reed, the mouthpiece, the barrel, the clarinet, and of course with the player and the mood du jour. So many variables - too many. There are players who sound beautiful on cheap instruments, and I can sound horrible even on expensive ones.
If you don't mind spending some money more, then flying to Paris or NYC or wherever they have the biggest stores with the broadest choice may be your only option.
There is not one single instrument that "sounds best". There's only one that "fits you best".

Maybe a large bore jazz type horn would sound close to an old Albert system clarinet?

MMS,
I have very fond memories of a visit to UAE. When I was in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, I could not help to notice the presence of military bases in each major city. Where you have the military, you usually have music. I'd seek out a military musician and see if that person can help you.
In Doha, there was a music store I visited and I had an interesting chat with the people running it. They indicated that there was not a lot of clarinet playing in Qatar but they did say there were people that did. So, western-style music using the clarinet is known.

Maybe some of the larger known internet stores would send to you on a trial basis, like wwbw.com. I know I've read posts on this board that people have had clarinets shipped to them for trying out.

The R-13 and Vintage R-13 will vary greatly and some will respond better/worse than others of the same model and make. To repeat others on the BBoard, I would suggest you look for a trial offer so that you can try as many as you need and send back the ones that don't meet your expectations. Best of Luck!!!
