Hello.... After a 40+ year absence I'm about to re-acquaint myself with the beauty of playing the clarinet. I've recently inherited a Selmer USA clarinet with a Selmer Paris C85 115 mouthpiece. I believe they were both purchased in the late '70s or early 80's.
However, I'm tring to determine the model of the clarinet but other than the fact that it has gold-plated keys and the number 1052 stamped on it (I almost needed a magnifying glass to see the number...tiny and worn) I'm unable to. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Any help to this first time forum user would be greatly appreciated!

Hi WG, welcome to our good BBoard, some of us should be able to help you with identifying your Selmer, others and I are somewhat familiar with them. Is there any other info on your horn, Upper and Lower Joints, possibly a {Greek language] Omega sign, since you referred to gold plated keys. Selmer's best cls were generally made in France/Paris and said so. As best I know, some of their designs were also made in the USA, just not as highly considered. >Nuff for now, regards, Don

Thank you for your reply. Other than the serial number and gold-plated keys
as well as Selmer USA stamped on the components, there are no additional markings, numbers, etc. On another matter, the mouthpiece is a Selmer Paris C85 115. Given my novice status would I be better to use a more modest mouthpiece that my provide less resistance? I use a Vandoren 2 1/2 reed. Again, any help is greatly appreciated.

I think Selmer USA gold plated some of their Omega models, which were above the Soloist - upper end intermediate.
mpc-wise I use a C85 115 from time to time. It's a great mpc and should be fine with a 2-1/2 reed.
Just get some more practice in and build up your diaphram

I think the dating on the mouthpiece may be inaccurate: Selmer came out with the C85 series of mouthpieces after the 1980s - maybe mid 1990s?
Anyone know for sure?
