Hi all
A friend of mine owns a rose gold Bonade lig. I haven't seen her around to ask her about it but I was wondering if anyone knows of where to get these as I would like to try one.
Also, would the gold alto sax Bonade fit a clarinet?

I have the standard nickel silver one I piced up on Ebay for a couple of bucks. Works quite well.

I have silver plated ones on all my clarinets; prefer that to the standard nickel plate. I can't wait to try gold!

I have a Gold Bonade with the center cut out. It's really nice but can't decide if the Gold is any better than the silver.

Could you describe the before and after differences in how the lig worked for you? That is, did the gold plating make any noticable difference in your sound or in your clarinet's response?

Reading this makes me want a silver or gold one... I'm not sure that i can justify it though unless there is some kind of actual improvement in my sound as a result. I doubt this is the case... anybody noticed anything?

IMHO, expecting the plating on your ligature to have an audible effect on your sound is about as plausible as expecting the color of your necktie to have an effect on your sound. It's all in your heads, sports fans!

The gold plated ligature gives a more lustrous sound that has sheen and is not susceptible to tarnishing. Silver ligs give a more burnished tone. For the ultimate in clarity of tone try a diamond lig, but beware that there are many cubic zirconium knockoffs on ebay.

Actually, I got the Bonade plated to keep it from slipping when I switched the mouthpiece from the A to the Bb and back. Nickel plating is slippery.
I think there is a difference in the sound. Not being an expert in ligatures, I don't know why. For all I know, it could simply be the added mass, and any added plating will have the same effect. The gold does help stop the slippage, so it's worth it just for that. At any rate, there seems to be more core in the sound, whatever the reason.

I tried one of these, gold plates with the center cut out some time ago, and I liked it. My teacher also seemed to think it made a significant difference...but I never got around to buying one. I think he cut out the center and sent it to someone to be plated. Since Muncy sells them this way, I ordered one to see what I think. Chris, it's good to hear that it helps with the slipping, that drives me crazy. I'll post again when it shows up in the mail in a week or so.

I make it a rule to teighten the upper screw more firmly than the lower one to obtain more reed vibration. (I think I read this in Keith Stein's book.)
Since this way does not seem to work with an inverted ligature,I use a non-inverted gold plated Bonade ligature.
As to materials, I feel their base metals and their mass have more influence on sound than plating metals. My pure silver ligature(not a Bonade) seems to make the sound like a Velvet, or in other words it seems to absorb higher harmonics. My cupper one makes the sound somewhat crisp.
Each mouthpiece has its own contour and present Bonades are often deformed. You may need pliers.
