 Micro-Metronome
Author: John J. Moses

Here's the smallest and neatest metronome ever. It fits on your ear, and clips easily on your earlobe. Sounds weird, but it really works. You can set it to any beat, or beat pattern, slip it on and play away in perfect time. It's like having a recording studio "click track" in your ear without annoying anyone around you. Great for practice, or even solo studio work.
Check it out:http://www.music123.com/Korg-MM1-On-Ear-Micro-Metronome-i46812.music

I do not profit from the sale of this product, or anything else I rave about.

John,

Fascinating ... do you think you'd try one?

Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

Hi diz:
I use mine every day, and have shown it to dozens of students and colleagues in NYC. Everyone is turned on by the size (it's tiny), price (it's $20), and the convenience of use. Give it a try, if you're into the metronome thing.

I'd prefer one that tapped (tactile) instead of clicking or bleeping. I could put it into my trouser pocket or wrap it round my ankle. I have an MA30 but the clicking sometimes distracts me.

Anybody checked the loudness of this device with a sound level meter? Does it have a volume control?

Impulse noise can do serious harm to your hearing. Putting the sound source right into the ear increases the likelihood of acoustic trauma. The actual intensity of sound hitting the eardrum will depend upon how tightly this little guy fits into the ear canal.

That's really neat! Though I think I'd get annoyed with this clicking thing in my ear, it could be useful!

The device can be attached anywhere, even to your shirt collar. I use mine attached to my ear, but not in my ear canal. The volume is moderate, not annoying, but not adjustable. I like it, but it's not for everyone. I've worked with a "click track" for years, so it's comfortable for me.

The company that makes these devices should change its name from "Korg" to "Borg". (I wonder if it will beat in 7/9 rhythm?)

Ode to Vivaldi

Metronomes are made by
Gnomes
The click and clack
some even talk back

Back "in the day"
before technology was "all that"

The clicking became a disease.
He couldn't count twos, fours or threes.
A new metronome,
He bought and took home.
But the problem was just noisy keys!

A footnote to the history of cartooning:

Walter Lance, creator of Woody Woopecker, would be dismayed to find out that his inspiration was not an avian awakening him one morning by its incessant pecking, but in actuality, an old key-wound metronome gone awry in the adjoining guest cottage.

Why wouldn't use of the earphone feature on many metronomes be equally good (or preferable) using the earbuds we all have lying around in drawers without entailing another gizmo purchase?

"another gizmo purchase?"
If you have to ask, you're not into GIZMOS...! This tiny metronome is a fun, inexpensive gizmo that works as well as those bigger metronomes, and it fits anywhere. Do you need it, no...will the bud-ear-plugs work with the bigger models, yes. It's just a really neat new Gismo.

Seems useless though... you can't use it like a normal metronome, so you'll still need one! Isnt' this why most metronomes come with the single ear heaphone jack?

What part of "micro" don't you get???
The idea here is not to replace your favorite metronome, no matter what size it might be, but rather have a neat little "toy" for $20, that works well as a metronome, gets lots of attention, and weighs a few ounces???

My idea with this post was to introduce some of you to a new "toy" that might help you and your students/friends have fun with a decent time keeper. Nothing of great value, just a little fun...

It represents a nifty bit of design. It represents amazing technology.

Therefore its manufacture represents incredible creative input.

Therefore it is an art work. For you to create one from scratch would cost billions of $. Therefore it is an incredible art work at an amazingly small price.

It is part of the human condition that we happen to like good art works near ourselves.

Will I buy one - no. I have become wise to the modern era of marketing.

But that is the reason I bought one of the first models of quartz watch that came on the market, and the reason I almost bought a kinetic watch. Quite simply, they are amazing works of art.

So, who wants to start a gizmo-addiction count?

I have 3 clarinet-playing frogs.
