 Danny Boy - Help!
Author: BassetHorn

Guys, I need some urgent help. Does anyone have the lyrical part of Danny Boy for Bb clarinet? Could I get a fax copy of email copy if possible? We have a going away party tonight and the guys have asked me to play it. I can sing it in my head but actually playing it on clarinet would be easier if I had a score. Anything, please, even something “home made”….

Willy

A number of protestant hymnals have this tune in them with alternate words. Check the index of tune names, it'l be listed as Londonderry. One such hymn is "Thy cross, O Christ, above the hills is shining". (I think that's its title.)

Funny, my own "by ear" version started with low F#...

"About rite" TTT, our concert band arr. [Londonderry Air, Grainger?] put me, on alto cl in unison with some Bb's, starting on C#, which would be [I thunk] their low F#, lowest note I believe, play it with "pathos" but not too slowly. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I remember doing a concert where the singer was given the TONIC note of 'Danny Boy' by the leader, and he started it on this note (instead of the LEADING note) - so he was a semitone sharp throughout the first verse - then the rest of the choir and orchestra joined in - and he was still singing a semitone out right to the end!

Has to be said I won't work with them anymore.
