Does anyone have any kind of playing experience with G clarinet?
Besides the Turkish metal one that appears from time to time on eBay, I know that Amati makes a fairly affordable Albert system version, and Steve Fox, Ripamonti, and Orsi make a Boehm version with substantially higher price tag.

I have a metal Turkish horn and it works just fine, with one exception. The exterior diameter of a metal horn is smaller than that of a wooden horn, and combining that with the Albert system AND the length of a G instrument makes it occasionally difficult to reach the RH pinky keys. Also with my extra-dry skin on my palms/fingers, my right thumb tends to slide around a lot.
I've tried an Orsi wooden (Albert) one and would get one in a heartbeat if I had a spare $ or 2 lying around. It was much easier for ME to play with the RH pinky keys...

I'm curious as to the uses for a G clarinet. I've played much of the standard orchestral repertoir and have never seen any music requiring clarinet in G. Thoughts?

I recently bought an Amati G in Albert system. It has a wonderful sound and is easy to play. Seems to be excellent quality to me. I am really impressed with the tone it gives for the Greek music I play. There has been a problem with one leaky pad, but Graham Golden is having it fixed. Otherwise, it's a great clarinet and much better than any of the metal ones I have tried.
Good luck.
