I know this isn't a top rate topic, but could anybody help me in my search for a good afordable alto clarinet case. I have recently accuired a selmer single peice body alto clarinet, without a case. I have searched everywhere, at least places i would think to look. The clarinet is in okay condition, so i would like to get a case for it, hopefully not a used one. Pro-tec didn't have one, which is odd, and to me they seem to be the best deal along my lines.

Try www.giardinelli.com, I think the sell alto clarinet cases for $75, atleast last I checked. Making one is also not that hard, I think there may be a couple of threads on making cases, thats what I did when I my Kohlert alto a couple years ago.

I have looked for a replacement one piece alto clarinet case and these are the two I have been able to find:
Universal One Piece Alto Clarinet Case #146AL
DEG Alto Clarinet Case #RD15
Both can be found in the US$70-80 range

You might consider [measure] a soprano sax case, possibly even an old metal clarinet case, IF your alto has a fairly long neck, so as to have a "shorter" upper section ["joint ??"]. How well does it play? Comments, Dave S ? Luck, Don

Nothing worthwhile to add, advice-wise. The above suggestions sound good. If you can find some thick blocks of sponge foam such as large, heavy objects are packed in, you can easily fit a thick foam block inside a gutted case (alto sax comes to mind as about the right size -- I have a few spare of these, please contact me off-line if interested) and cut the foam to fit the alto clarinet. Then, spray the top of the foam block with fabric adhesive (e.g. 3-M) and lay in some thin, stretchy velour fabric. Presto, instant case.

My Selmer [2 joint] Alto body [assembled] measures 26", and my A S gig bag can take up to about 30", with plenty of room for the bell and "others". Don

I checked out the fereestools site (I have a caseless one piece alto also), but the cases listed are 25.25" long. The body of my alto is 28.5" long. It does not say, but it would seem that these cases are for two piece bodies.

If you don't mind gutting the interior and rebuilding it in a non-standard configuration, you might be able to get your one-piece body into the Ferree's case diagonally. I fit a full-Boehm one-piece-body "A" clarinet into a regular Buffet double case that way a few months ago.

Thanks for all this info guys, it helps. Would be great if i had the clarinet in hands, i just bought it from the wonderful auction site, so i am unable to measure it, nor see how it sounds. Something is bound to come up, if not i will use all your tips on making one. Thanks again!

Glad I revisited this thread. The Ferree's cases are shorter than some altos, mine included. They are Bundy/Buescher cases. Ferree's was kind enough to let me cancel. Thanks, again, guys. Saved from myself.
