What are the differences between the Portnoy mouthpiece designations?
I'm finding the BP01, BP02, BP03, and BP04. I can't seem to find a Portnoy website or an accurate description of the differences. As a matter of fact, the only description I've found is one describing the BP02 as similar to a Vandoren B45.

I play a Portnoy BP02 and have been doing so for a very long time. Here is a comment I made on anither thread recently.
"...in an email several years ago to B. Portnoy, I asked him is he was trying to copy the Kaspar or the Ched and he said "No..." Actually, his answer was more lengthy and colorful but I can't remember all of the exact words. I wish I still had that email." Did you do a search on this website as there are some great stories about BP?
The BP01 is too close for me and the BP03 too open (I had a couple and sold then to a BB poster - he loved them). The BP02 is just right for me but I'm a doubler. The WWBW MP tip opening chart indicates that the BP02 has a 1.14 opening and the B40 is the same. I've never heard of a BP04.

Hi: My favorite mouthpieces are the Borbeck #16 and #14.
That being said, however, I had several other old mouthpieces around that I've sold off by now, but one that I've kept is a BP03. I don't know why, but it's almost as good as the Borbecks and Walter Grabner's "Jazz" mouthpieces. Everytime I try it and think about passing it on to someone else, I realize it plays well for me and I keep it.
I think the BP03 must be similar to the #16 and #14 that work so well for me. It is a good mouthpiece for my type of music.

BP1 - 1.09
BP02 - 1.14 (B. Portnoy's personal facing)
BP3 - 1.22
