Is there any descernable difference? I would assume that they would function the same way considering that they are both fabric ligs. Maybe not... can someone inform me?

Well, the BG Rev. have a metal insert with a little fabric cord running down the middle. I think it adds more vibrance and resonance to the sound. It lets the reed and mp vibrate freely.

The difference between my rovner and my BG special relev. is like noght any day. My BG has a really nice warm and resonant sound while the rovner has a darker mushy and somewhat mellow sound.

? Is this the Consoli ligature? If so, I just now found the Consoli patent, US 6,020,545 which is viewable via the IBM and USPTO patent sites. If help is needed to retrieve, please ask. A pic may be available [with some difficulty] but the printed description, particularly via USPTO, full-text, should be sufficient. I have no knowledge re: the Consoli, but have started using my Rovner on my C* Selmer Bass cl mp, and have been surprised at the more-mellow? sounds!! Don

I have never tried the BG lig - yet I do have a Rovner lig. Umm, it plays with a beautiful tone - very mellow, soft, sad yet sweet....

I play on a Rovner lig and in response to Sara's comment as to it giving a "mushy" sound, the conotation behind that turn leads me to believe that that is a negative thing, Please clarify! I never tried BG's i'm curious as there capabilities. However, i do know that going from a stock metal ligature to a rovner made all the difference in the world as far as my tone. At All-State band I was pretty low in the section and everyone ahead of me used metal Ligs, when the conductor got to me to tune, after having tuned the other 17 clarinet ahead of me, He told me that I had the best tone he's heard in a long time. I was so thrilled. All the credit goes to my mp, embochure, and of course my rovner lig... and ya know my R13 had something to do with it!

I use the term mushy in refering to a comparison not as its overall tone. I use my BG primarily because it has a somewhat more vibrant and resonance to it, on the contrary my rovner sounds sad and melloewed out and with a slightly abnormal reed it sounds more more dead in tone quality. I think that my BG was definitly worth the $38 investment. But I think for all purposes don't make your decision by others comments whjy don't you try it out for yourself?

personally, I dun really like the fabrics BG (with metal and cord insert) mainly becos of the tone generated. The metal BG (traditional) are better in that they allow the reed to vibrate more.
As for Rovner, I find that the model I have (the older generation leathery dark-C1R Mk III) tend to dampen much of the reed vibration although they are "sweet" enuff with a nice reed.
Perhaps you would like to try the Rovner Eddie Daniels II ligature. I think its great!!(but pricey). Try experimenting with the 6 different configurations provided (2 diff plate inserts and flaps)

Thanx, SeAn, I wasn't allowed on via the above, but searched consoli and found LASAX, ex. dist's. of the lig. apparently. As far as I can see from L and from the pat, it seems like a combo of the Rov plus the "rails" of the Bonade. Anyone who knows, please correct my conclusions. Don
