I've heard lots about gold plating on ligatures. I recently won a gold plated BG soloist on ebay, although I haven't received it yet. What does the gold plating do to the sound?

Nothing that I've noticed (my teacher has a gold & silver plated Harrison & I can't tell the difference between the two) but the gold sure looks nice.

I tried out a few different BG ligatures. The one I normally use is the BG Revelation, which is leather. The silver BG sounded much the same; the gold one sounded as good but much louder. This may have had nothing to do with the gold plating. I can't believe myself that gold can sound any better than silver. It seems too much of a coincidence that the more expensive the metal, the better it sounds.
