In one of the sections (the one with the cor anglais solo) it suddenly changes to B (from A clarinet) for about 30 bars. Same story at the end. does this make any sense ? I'd rather keep playing on A ,transposing ofcourse ;-)
Anyone any idea why this was done ?

It's easier just to change the key signature from 3 flats to 4 sharps than to change clarinet - just do the whole lot on A.
Probably an automatic response - the 'A' section is in Db major concert pitch (5 flats) and it's assumed the Bb clarinet is best used for playing in these flat keys, though in practice I find it easier sticking to playing A and playing in 4 sharps - all the notes stay in exactly the same place but the key signature changes. Then it chages to C#minor concert for the middle (or 'B' section).
I have seen someone (professionally) doing the complete opposite, playing his Bb for almost the entire piece but changing to A clarinet for the 2nd movement 'A' sections - strange but true. Maybe he likes playing in sharp keys.
