 print ad w/clarinet

Anyone see the AT&T ad on page 27 of the March Atlantic magazine? It shows a rich dude dressed in black with his laptop and a clarinet and the slogan "Find your passion first, job second". ¿Does this mean we are no longer nerds?

I wondered about that ad, which also appears in the current edition of the New Yorker. But I wondered about it from another point of view - is "Roger" a celebrity I'm supposed to recognise (like "Lance" in another ad in the same magazine), or just a generic rich dude? And why does his clarinet have no brand marking visible? And if he is so rich, why can't he afford a stand rather than just standing it up on its bell (shudder).

-----------

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

Because he can afford to get a new clarinet when that one gets knocked over!

Yeah I know, I shouldn't start a sentence with 'because'.

I saw it in New Yorker...the one that has the Regency Man with the pinky raised. Twee.

Roger has a plastic clarinet. No doubt he is very self-assured
