If anyone out there knows how to check up on serial numbers, please let me know. The info on this site helped, but wasn't was I was looking for. I have a Boosey and Hawkes clarinet with a serial # of 7440 on it. I don't know what model it is. It does still play, but it has a bad crack in the upper body joint.

Usually the smaller numbers are older, but I don't know what the Boosey & Hawkes would be compared to. You can take it to a repair shop or music store and ask them. They would have a better idea.

I was looking in the IMS catolog and it says that a clarinet with a serial number from 5000 to 7499 was made in 1930. I hope that information helps you.

This seems unlikely as the company Boosey and Hawkes was not even formed until 1930.
Did the list in the IMS catalog specifically state that these were Boosey and Hawkes serial numbers?

Looking at the serial number lists right here on sneezy would lead me to believe that the IMS information is for Buffet clarinets not the Boosey & Hawkes.
