Hi
I am new on this bboard, since I'm a rookie clarinettist. Been wanting to buy one for a year for its both mellow & haunting sound in orchestra music.
Then again, the first clarinet I set hands on was a stinking sham: indian made, 13 keys, a plastic sound. Lowest note is G, not E. Are such mock clarinets common? I'm living in Bangladesh, by the way.
I then found a near-perfect state Yamaha, for a sweet 80euro. I hope to get good in time, I've played cello and piano so I daresay I have an 'ear' for melodies.
Cheers,
Alex

Lowest note is G (concert?)?
Did you get an Eb clarinet by chance? There's a lot of these being sold on the auction sites, in Bb and Eb, but all simple system - a throwback to the old Hawkes&Sons instruments played at the time of the British Empire rule in India.
The Yamaha will be a world apart from this one, and you will definitely find it a much more rewarding and easier clarinet to play.
