I've been meaning to publicly thank Larry Guy since I got his "Bonade" CD. I just received the "Legacy of Ralph McClane" and is superb! This is what most clarinetists need, to hear how two incredibly great clarinetists sound. The work, scholarship and plane butt kissing that had to go into these projects must have been incredible. Before you spend your next $40 on yet another ligature, get both of these CDs.

Also thanks to the Behn Vintage website (clarinetmouthpiece.com) for intoducing me to Louis Cahusac. Just when you think we have advanced as players over the years it's refreshing to hear that we stand on the shoulders of giants and sometimes just have to look up at them.

The Bonade and McLane CDs are essential for all clarinetists. I just got the McLane CD and have played it over and over, taking in his amazing sound and musicianship.
Cahuzac was an important player. His recording of the Hindemith Concerto, made in his great old age, was wonderful. Unfortunately, it's out of print and seems unlikely to return. His Nielsen Concerto was its first recording and is problematic -- musically wonderful but not in sympathy with the character of the piece and rather stretched technically.
Cahuzac in his prime and a tone as big as a house and dazzling technique and musicianship.
