What kinds of wood are used for wooden mouthpieces? Has anyone ever used ironwood?
Thanks

Some tidbits of information about hardwood mouthpieces that you may find interesting:
Go to the search function and type in - hardwood mouthpiece smith - or just - hardwood mouthpiece. I came up with many hits and several informative threads discussing these types mouthpieces.

I have to give a BIG plus to Greg Smith's wooden mouthpiece. I used one for several years (a Grenadilla wood model) and was very happy with it. I found the tone to be very warm and smooth. About six months ago I changed equipment and the mouthpiece didn't work as well for me, but until then it was absolutely the best I've ever played. I did send it to him for a touch-up on the facing once because I had gotten a tiny grain of unsmoothness (don't know exactly how to explain it) from the wood changing a bit. It's not like a plastic or hard rubber mouthpiece because of the nature of wood. I still highly recommend them.
The material of the mouthpiece won't make much difference if you don't get one done by an expert craftsman like Greg.
