I'm working on some pieces that require low E flat and high B flat fingered with index fingers down only. I find that when I twist the top key section of my horn off center, about 1/6 of an inch, the tone is better and it " sings", good attack and tone. However, when set this way, it's very difficult to sustain the note for long before the note fades to what sounds like soft harmonics, than gone. Is there something out of whack with my horn, or, is it me ? I'm returning after many years away. I'm working on scales, one line from 2 Rose studies, some Baerman studies. I get a nice tone up to altissimo F - just wondering if I need some adjustment..... Thanks.

Most likely the clarinet needs an adjustment to the bridge key mechanism so the 1/1 fingering works effortlessly.
Very simple and relatively inexpensive...GBK

It sounds like your 'long Bb' is out of regulation and the upper (LH) ring pad isn't closing fully in conjunction with the RH rings.
Either the bridge key is bent, or the cork has become compressed - but it's an easy enough job for a repairer to sort out.

Find out what happens if you use the second finger of your left hand to hold down the pad. If the note sustains correctly, the problem is the bridge mechanism.
Beware also that the Eb is usually very sharp. Bb may or may not be in tune.
