 OAE - Gran Partita

Evenin'

Just got back from a concert by the Orchestra of the of Age of Enlightenment (OAE) in Oxford (250 miles return trip for me!). It was exciting to hear them play with such character and charm.

Their programme were:

-Serenade in E flat K. 375

-Serenade in B flat K. 361 (Gran Partita or Partitta)

Between the two works, Anthony Robson (oboe) gave an illustrated talk about the GP, giving the audience the background of the piece as well as showing us how different they may sound on 'period instruments'. The 8-keyed classical clarinet sounded great, much more mellow than our modern clarinet and the oboe sounded quite sweet.

Having heard them tonight, one can get insight of how they would sound like back in the Mozart's time.

G'nite.
