 The Pomarico light ligature
Author: ElBlufer

Have any of you tried it? Any comments? This came in stock while waiting for my Bay ligature (which keeps getting pushed back) and I'm not sure which to order.

My Setup:
R13 Clarinet (Ridenour Lyrique as my backup/marching instrument)
Walter Grabner K11 mouthpiece
Rico Reserve 3.5's
Bonade ligature

Try one, the Pom people are skillful and seem to be enlarging their "lines". As the mood strikes me and in consideration of mps for several sizes of cls, I still go for Bonades, Luybens, Rovner [inverted-ala Bonade] etc. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I have had some wonderful experience with this ligature. The reeds get held down well yet are allowed to vibrate better than with a stadard ligature. You bind the reed only at one thin line and can move that line from center down to the heel, depending on how that particular reed responds best.

Two quick points:

There is a teflon liner that is adhered into the ligature. This worked its way out through tightening within the first few day of ownership - made no difference to me at all.

Also, the ligature may tend to "slip up" the mouthpiece a bit. As usual, I just gave a quick lateral rub around the inside (after the teflon fell out) with #400 sandpaper and voila, stays put.

HOWEVER, I am now crazy nuts for the Optimum by Vandoren. I am not sure about the whole different plate thing, but it REALLY holds even the most warped reed down solid.

You may also want to look at the Brancher - similar effects to the Pomarico.

Ok, thank you for that advice. I will now call in the change in my order. I am currious, what do you mean by the lateral rub, as I know that I will have to do that after a few weeks. Thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it.

I think that it works great with theil mouthpieces. The only thing I don't like about it is how it ligature slips off of the white material that helps from scratching the mouthpiece. Everytime I put it on, I have to try and adjust the ligature back over the paper. All in all though, a great ligature!

That paper slippage is exactly what I'm talking about. Just let it slip out and throw it in the garbage. The bare ligature will not scratch your mouthpiece any more than any other metal ligature.

Elblufer,

Poor discription on my part !! I just mean a very light sanding. What in effect you are doing is scoring the interior surface of the metal so that it grips the surface of the mouthpiece. Since you want to prevent slipping up and down, the tiny grooves in the metal that you sand into it would work best if they were running the LENGTH of the ligature.

Ever nervously twist a ring about your finger? Like that. The ligature is your ring and your finger is the sandpaper.

.......oh, no.............another bad description !!!

Thank you Paul. I will see if I can do that and have it work with one of pomaricos crystal mouthpieces. If it does not...I'm sure I can find a suitable solution.

My Setup:
R13 Clarinet (Ridenour Lyrique as my backup/marching instrument)
Walter Grabner K11 mouthpiece
Rico Reserve 3.5's
Bonade ligature

Another solution to keep a metal ligature from slipping on a crystal mouthpiece is to stick a few small strips of masking (paper) tape to the inside surrounding bands of the ligature...GBK
