I've stumbled upon your site and am hoping to find out some information on my mother's Cavalier, Elkhart, Ind. metal clarinet. the Serial # is 46294. It needs some tender loving care but for the most part looks in good shape. It has it's original case and mouthpiece. I'd love to know the age and value. Thank you for your help.

The Cavalier is a student model metal clarinet and usually sold on ebay for no more than 75 dollars or so. There were very few pro quality metal clarinets made....I'm sure some of our more experienced friends on the board can tell you more....but my advice is don't waste your money....

I literally wouldn't touch an amateur-made lamp made from a metal clarinet.

I have an 'all american made' clarinet that plays okay. I hang it on the wall next to my Conn straightneck C melody (tenor) sax as they are from the same era. It is amazing how many visitors to my home find this display very interesting. I have $31 invested in the clarinet. :o)

I believe Cavalier was a student-line made by Conn. By the way, despite all the bad press received here on this board by metal clarinets, there are good ones, too -- some of them are REALLY good and put most wood clarinets to shame, playing-wise. That said.......the Cavaliers are not among the best.
